Mbps vs MB/s: what's the difference?
Why your download shows MB/s when you signed up for Mbps — and how to convert in your head.
Mbps (megabits per second) is the unit of internet speed. MB/s (megabytes per second) is the unit of file size per second.
The rule of 8
1 byte = 8 bits. Divide Mbps by 8 to get MB/s. 100 Mbps ≈ 12.5 MB/s; 500 Mbps ≈ 62.5 MB/s.
Watch the letter
Lowercase 'b' is bit, uppercase 'B' is byte. It looks like a detail, but it's an 8x difference.
